RE: DOG EXECUTION CASE

FROM:

I am shocked and disgusted by the recent conviction of a man for "scandalising" a government department by the simple act of naming his dog after that department.

It is even more horrific that an innocent animal was executed in a senseless act of retribution for circumstances beyond the animal's control.

I would like to appeal to the Tanzanian government to reconsider the verdict of this case. Such a case should not be allowed to act as a precedent for any future cases.

This case highlights the plight of animals in human society. Not only are they not adequately protected from cruel treatment by any laws in Africa, but now they must also face the possibility that the law will use them as a means of punishment to offenders!

This case also reflects badly on the entire Tanzanian legal system and has attracted worldwide concern. It is no wonder that the world sees many African countries as being third world and uncivilised.
